Hi! I’m Jadon. I got my first camera (a Lumix TZ70) when I was 13 and my family went on a month-long trip through Europe. I really enjoyed the creativity of photography, trying to find unique angles and cool lighting, and continued taking photos as a hobby when we got back from our trip.

Only a few months later I had three strokes (brain hemorrhages) completely out of the blue and was left with a disability that prevented me from participating in the sports I loved. I started to use my photography as a way to stay somewhat involved in sports (even though I couldn’t physically do them myself) and bought a Canon 750D.

Then in 2018 I had the opportunity through Make-A-Wish to spend a day photographing mountain bikers in Rotorua with Red Bull photographer Graeme Murray. I was also given a bunch of free camera gear from Canon, who partner with Make-A-Wish. This propelled my photography because not only was I now using professional gear, I had also learnt a lot from the day out.

Once I finished high school, I went to the University of Canterbury to study Biology, and got really into wildlife photography, photographing the various bird species around Christchurch. For a few years this was the only type of photography I did, but in the last year I’ve been getting back into a bit of sports photography again and experimenting with film.

After graduating with a degree in Biology in 2023, I realised that it wasn’t really plausible for me to work in the field of Biology with the disability I have, so I decided to switch to Graphic Design. I already knew I was quite creative and I’d done some graphic design work for a DJ named TIIGS, so picking that up more professionally made sense. I studied at Yoobee College of Creative Innovation in 2024 and graduated with a Diploma in Digital Design at the end of the year.
